On June 8, Taiwan activated its defense systems following the detection of 37 Chinese military aircraft entering the airspace designated for its defense. Some of these aircraft continued their flight into the western Pacific, marking Beijing's most recent intrusion into the region.

China considers Taiwan its territory despite its democratic governance and has consistently dispatched its air force near the island in the past three years. However, these flights have typically remained outside the actual airspace of Taiwan.

According to Taiwan's defense ministry, starting at 5 a.m. (2100 GMT on Wednesday), its radars identified 37 Chinese air force aircraft entering the southwestern region of Taiwan's air defense identification zone (ADIZ). These included J-11, J-16 fighters, and H-6 bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons.

The ADIZ encompasses a broader area that Taiwan actively monitors and patrols, enabling its forces to have a more significant window of time to respond to potential threats. As stated in an official statement by the ministry, some Chinese aircraft proceeded toward the southeast of Taiwan. They crossed the western Pacific, engaging in "air surveillance and long-distance navigation training."

In reaction to the situation, Taiwan deployed its aircraft and naval vessels to monitor the developments and simultaneously activated its land-based missile systems. The statement mentioned that Taiwan followed its standard operating procedure in addressing such Chinese actions.

Additionally, on Wednesday, China successfully concluded the second phase of joint air patrols with Russia in the western Pacific. These patrols followed flights over the Sea of Japan and the East China Sea the previous day, raising concerns regarding national security in Japan.

Earlier in April, China conducted military exercises near Taiwan in response to a visit by Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen to the United States. It is worth noting that Taiwan's government firmly rejects China's assertions of sovereignty and emphasizes that only the people of Taiwan have the right to determine their future.
