Putin Announces Permanent Black Sea Patrols with Kinzhal-Armed Fighter Jets

 On Wednesday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that Russia's Aerospace Forces would initiate permanent patrols over the Black Sea. These patrols will be carried out using MiG-31 fighter jets armed with the advanced Kh-47M2 Kinzhal hypersonic missile system. Speaking to reporters in Beijing following a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Putin emphasized that this move should not be seen as a threat but rather as a means to monitor and ensure stability in the region.
The Kinzhal hypersonic ballistic missile system, with its impressive range of over 1,000 kilometers and a top speed of Mach 10, is considered a game-changer in the realm of military technology. Putin's declaration marks a significant development in the ongoing geopolitics of the Black Sea region and beyond.
"The Russian Aerospace Forces will begin patrols on a permanent basis in the neutral zone of airspace over the Black Sea, and the MiG-31 aircraft will be armed with Kinzhal systems," Putin stated. He went on to clarify, "I stressed that this is not a threat, but we will exercise visual control, control with weapons of what is happening in the Mediterranean Sea."
This announcement has sparked discussions and raised questions about the geopolitical implications, not just in the Black Sea but also in the broader Mediterranean region. With the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Islamist Hamas group, Putin's remarks indicate Russia's increasing interest in monitoring the developments in the area. Putin's announcement comes shortly after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Kyiv had deployed US long-range ATACMS missiles for the first time against two Russian airfields. One of these airfields is located on the coast of the Sea of Azov, approximately 100 kilometers from the front lines. This move reflects Ukraine's effort to respond to Russia's military activities in the region.
