Facebook Business Suite: A New Cross-app Management for SMBs

Facebook Business Suite: A New Cross-app Management for SMBs

On September 17, 2020, Facebook's Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg announced the launch of Facebook Business Suite, a new interface to help small and medium businesses (SMBs) save time and stay up to date by managing their pages or profiles across Facebook apps. The new interface will allow SMBs to post to Facebook and Instagram at the same time, and manage and receive messages, notifications, and alerts in one place.

The new interface will be available for only SMBs. Later, it will be available to any business on Facebook. Do note, WhatsApp is not currently included, but that will be integrated next year.

Facebook's latest Global State of Small Business Report (produced monthly in partnership with the World Bank and OECD) found that small businesses making more than 25% of their sales online are more likely to report higher sales than this time last year and less likely to have reduced their number of employees.

The report captured 25,000 SMB responses from multiple countries. All the businesses surveyed had Facebook Pages. The findings reflect a challenging economic environment amid a faltering recovery.  The survey also found encouraging support for local businesses. Of those who said they had started shopping at new businesses, nearly three-quarters said that at least one was a small business.

Some of the SMB insights from the survey include the following:

  • 44% of SMBs were making more than 25% of their sales through online channels.

  • 38% of operational SMBs on Facebook said 50% or more of their sales were made digitally in the 30 days.

  • Businesses less than 5 years old, run by women, those with more education and/or founders under 40 were more likely to have at least 25% of sales from digital channels.

  • 31% of consumers said they will increase their spending with small local businesses once the pandemic is over.
