On June 6, 2019, the Government of India (GoI) has reconstituted National Institution for Transforming India, also known as NITI Aayog. Dr. Rajiv Kumar will continue to be Vice Chairman, while V.K. Saraswat, Prof. Ramesh Chand, Dr. V.K. Paul are reselected as new members of the policy think tank. The only change being economist Bibek Debroy’s name not figuring in the new list. 

The approved re-constitution of NITI Aayog as follows:

*Chairperson - Narender Modi - Prime Minister of India

* Vice-Chairperson - Dr. Rajiv Kumar: He is the chancellor of the Gokhale Institute of Economics and Politics in Pune and founding director of Pahle India Foundation, a non-profit research organization that specializes in policy-oriented research and analysis

 Full-Time Members

* Prof. Ramesh Chand: He is currently Member of NITI Aayog in the rank and status of Union Minister of State. He has a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi. He is Fellow, National Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Indian Society of Agricultural Economics.

* Vijay Kumar Saraswat: He is an Indian scientist who formerly served as the Director General of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Chief Scientific Advisor to the Indian Minister of Defence (MoD).

* Dr. V.K. Paul: He has been a member of the faculty at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi for over 32 years and Head of the Department of Pediatrics for nearly a decade.

*Raj Nath Singh - Minister of Defence

*Amit Shah - Minister of Home Affairs

*Nirmala Sitharaman - Minister of Finance and Minister of Corporate Affairs

*Narendra Singh Tomar - Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare; Minister of Rural Development; Minister of Panchayati Raj.

Special Invitees

* Nitin Jairam Gadkari - Minister of Road Transport and Highways; Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises

* Thaawar Chand Gehlot - Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment.

* Piyush Goyal - Minister of Railways; and Minister of Commerce and Industry

* Rao Inderjit Singh - Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation and Minister of State (Independent Charge) of Ministry of Planning.

On June 15, 2019, Prime Minister Modi will chair the fifth meeting of NITI Aayog's Governing Council to discuss issues concerning water management, agriculture, and security.

It is a policy think tank of the GoI, established with the aim to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to enhance cooperative federalism by fostering the involvement of State Governments of India in the economic policy-making process using a bottom-up approach.

While designing strategic and long term policies and programs for the Government of India, NITI Aayog also provides relevant technical advice to the Centre and States.
