The benchmark lending rate will remain within the range of 5.25% and 5.50%, reaching a 23-year peak. Powell stated, "If the economy evolves broadly as expected, it will likely be appropriate to begin dialing back policy restraint at some point this year." Despite this optimistic outlook, Powell dismissed the possibility of an imminent rate cut in March.
