In a statement provided to Reuters, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the largest chip manufacturer globally, recently expressed its intention to secure long-term permission from the U.S. government for the export of chip production machinery to its Nanjing, China facility. This move comes in the wake of a one-year license renewal for the Nanjing plant, which has prompted TSMC to take steps towards securing a long-term presence in China.

The Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) in the United States has advised TSMC to apply for a Validated End-User (VEU) authorization, which, if granted, will serve as a permanent authorization for the company's activities in China.
