Xi Jinping Signs Mobilization Order for PLA

On January 4, 2022, Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), signed a troop mobilization order for the training of the armed forces. 2022; officially declared as the start of military training for the year. This year's order; seems to be a continuation of last year's troop mobilization order which also stressed strengthening military training in real combat conditions. 


According to a CGTN news report, "The entire rank and file of the armed forces are required to resolutely implement the plans and instructions of the Party leadership and the CMC, according to the order, adding that the changing landscape of national security and combat circumstances must be accurately understood." It further added, "The armed forces must closely follow the evolution of technology, warfare, and rivals, redouble their efforts to better combine training with combat operations, and strengthen systematic training and the use of technologies to develop an elite force that is capable of fighting and winning wars."


Xi is not just focusing on military integration and modernization. He is also reshaping Chinese identity by pivoting on the Chinese imperial past and bringing back Confucian wisdom in the mainstream narrative, even though the Communist Party has destroyed all that came before it in order to build a new China. Last month, in his public address, Xi said China will promote “sinicization of religion”, with a focus on strengthening control of online religious affairs, pointing out that it is imperative to uphold the principle of developing religions in the Chinese context. In simple words, according to Marwan Bishara, a Senior political analyst at Al Jazeera, "He is rewriting history as a success story in line with the party ideology in order to disseminate it to the public as a collective memory".


Unlike his predecessors, Xi is widely expected to remain in power at the end of the 2nd five-year tenure which ends this year and will start his record third term after CPC convene the 20th National Congress in the second half of 2022.
