Abu Dhabi/Dubai – February 18, 2020: The CEO of the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, Masdar, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, will be presented with “The Gulf Intelligence International Energy Diplomacy Person of the Year Award 2019,” in London on February 27th. Previous recipients of the prestigious accolade, which takes place during the Energy Institute’s International Petroleum (IP) Week, have included the Ministers of Energy & Industry of the UAE and Saudi Arabia. 

The International Energy Diplomacy Person of the Year Award celebrates the successful legacy of an individual with an outstanding record of achievement in the Advancement of collaboration and cooperation to ensure the global energy industry delivers on its commitment to the great energy transition and balanced markets.

“Mr. Al Ramahi’s vision to spearhead the strategic development of Masdar into a leading global enterprise in renewable energy and clean technologies is a testament to his exemplary leadership on reducing the UAE’s greenhouse gas emissions as part of the Paris Agreement, and in support of delivering a low carbon future,” said Louise Kingham OBE FEI, Chief Executive Officer, Energy Institute. “He has cemented the UAE’s commitment to maximizing the potential of renewable energy and propelled its importance in the region.”

Masdar, which is owned by the UAE Mubadala Investment Company, was ahead of its time when it was established in 2006; it has since cemented its position as a global leader in renewable energy and sustainable urban development. Under Al Ramahi’s stewardship, the company has partnered with companies such as Spain’s CEPSA and France’s EDF to develop projects in energy storage, solar and wind power and waste-to-energy (WTE) across Europe and MENA. Most recently it expanded its geographical reach to Australia.

The Energy Institute is the largest Royal Charter international professional membership organization and learned society concerned solely with energy, with Her Majesty the Queen as its Patron. IP Week is recognized as one of the major international oil and gas events, where senior leaders, policymakers and academics gather to share, learn and shape the future direction of the industry. IP Week has an international appeal, attracting delegates from over 50 countries and it is one of the major events in the global oil and gas industry’s calendar.
