On November 8, 2021, the Chinese state-owned company China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC) delivered PNS Tughril (classified as Tughril-class frigate), a Type 054A/P guided-missile frigate to the Pakistan Navy at a commissioning ceremony in Shanghai. It is the first ship out of two, delivered to Pakistan as per the agreement signed in 2017. The follow on contract for two more ships was signed in June 2018. The delivery of all four ships is expected to be completed by 2022.

Currently, there are three more ships (of Tughril-class) under construction - the second entered the water in January, the third ship was launched around early August and the fourth and final frigate is under construction at Hudong Zhonghua Shipyard and expected to be launched later this year.

The type 054 A/P Frigate is said to be the third Pakistan Navy warship to hold the name PNS Tughril after an O-Class Destroyer (1951) and a Gearing-Class Destroyer (1980).
