Xiaomi's Mi Band 4 - Making Wearbales More Affordable

On June 11, 2019, Xiaomi unveiled a bunch of new products at a special event in China,. The most popular, and highly anticipated one was the Mi Band 4 - the new "smart" fitness band which is a successor to last year model - Mi Band 3.

The smart wearable impressed the Chinese audience so much that over 1 million units were shipped in the first eight days of its availability. The 15-20 days battery life claimed by the company is the biggest selling point of the wearable (while the NFC version can last for 15 days). The band is based on the latest Bluetooth 5.0 LE, which offers better connectivity and consumes less power compared to the Bluetooth 4.2.

It features a 0.95-inch AMOLED color touch display with 240x120p resolution and comes in several colored silicone bands. It is protected with a layer of 2.5D curved glass on top. Besides that, the fitness tracker is able to show notifications from various apps like SMS, WhatsApp as well as your fitness stats.

Mi Band 4 is equipped with a six-axis accelerometer, which is said to monitor physical activities like running, cycling, exercise, swimming, and walking. With water resistance capability up to 5ATM, one could go swimming with the device in waters up to 50 meters deep.

Another thing which makes Mi Band 4 more attractive for the consumers is the music playback control feature. The feature is located in the "More" section. Given that this would be cumbersome to access each time a user wants to control the music playback, Xiaomi has also added quick access. Users can quickly access the Music Playback by swiping to the left or the right from the default Band face. The app works with Spotify, Google Play Music, and YouTube Music in the limited test period.

The Mi Band 4 comes in Black, Brown, Blue, Orange and Pink colors with at a starting price of CNY 169 (US$ 24.5 approx) for the standard variant and goes up to CNY 229 (US$ 33.28 approx) for the NFC enabled version. There is also an Avengers Series limited edition of the Mi Band 4, which is priced at CNY 349 (US$ 50.71 approx).
