Embraer Unveils Enhanced E-99M AEW&C Aircraft for Brazilian Air Force

Embraer, a prominent player in the aerospace industry, has marked a significant milestone by delivering the fifth EMB 145 AEW&C aircraft to the Brazilian Air Force (Força Aérea Brasileira, FAB). This newly designated E-99M represents a leap in Brazil's airborne capabilities, equipped with systems certified to safeguard national sovereignty and strengthen defense measures.

The E-99M is the first delivery of its kind, boasting a full operational capability (FOC) configuration. This accomplishment underscores Embraer's commitment to enhancing the country's defense capabilities. Bosco da Costa Junior, president and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, emphasized the pivotal nature of this delivery, stating, "The delivery of the fifth E-99 is an important milestone for the E-99M project. This is the first aircraft delivered in FOC configuration, with systems fully certified for use by the Brazilian Air Force for protecting the country and its national sovereignty."

The aircraft, built on the successful ERJ 145 regional jet platform, has undergone a series of upgrades to amplify its Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) functions. These enhancements span intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities, encompassing airspace surveillance, interception control and management, electronic intelligence, and border monitoring.

Key upgrades include an advanced Erieye radar, command control (C2) systems, electronic warfare (non-communication – NCOM) systems, a new IFF transponder, and mission audio and data recording capabilities. To optimize crew comfort and efficiency, the interior of the aircraft has been redesigned, featuring revamped consoles tailored for the upgraded systems.

Embraer's position in the Latin American market remains robust, accounting for 19.7% of the market share. According to GlobalData's "The Global Military Fixed Wing Aircraft Market 2023-2033" report, Embraer SA is poised to be the second-largest shareholder in the region.

The development of the E-99M involves a collaborative effort with international partners such as SAAB, Aeroelectronica International (AELI), and Rohde & Schwarz. Atech, an Embraer subsidiary, plays a pivotal role in the project, actively contributing to the command-and-control system and developing six mission planning and analysis stations crucial for crew training and advancement.

The reach of the EMB 145 AEW&C, now operating as E-99M, extends globally. Beyond Brazil, air forces in India, Mexico, and Greece also benefit from this airborne defense platform. The delivery of the upgraded E-99M not only fortifies Brazil's national defense but also underscores the nation's commitment to international cooperation in airborne surveillance and security.

NOTE: This milestone follows Embraer's delivery of the first modernized EMB 145 airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft, designated as E-99, to the FAB in 2020.
